As for me I built this website. What?, you ask. You call that a vacation? For an academic with a creative urge, I found this endeavor the right mix of intellectual stimulation and a relaxing new creative activity. This was not my first website, but one with more bells and whistles than the simple text and graphics pages I had done before. I even registered my own domain name this time, artpowers.net.

What’s next? Hopefully, the creator of anything gets some intrinsic value in their creation. To provide value to anyone else, they must let others know about it. Now you might not be an art professional, hobbyist, or student, but I’m sure art plays some role in your life. Most of us decorate our homes and places of work with paintings, prints, photos, or sculptures. Most of us also enjoy the various performing arts from music to movies to theatre. I hope you find something here you enjoy or can use. And forward a link to this site to your family and friends whether they are actively engaged in the arts or simply enjoy the arts. Maybe you will have the satisfaction of connecting them with an art rewarding experience.

Now there are a lot of things a kid can do with a box that’s bigger than they are. I distinctly remember two things that I did with that box, only two that I remember, but nonetheless very memorable. The box had a couple of re-enforcing boards to which the cardboard sides were tacked. I took one of the boards and attached a rubber band to one of the tacks. This I used to launch tree twigs like arrows. I really had a blast shooting at trees and other yard fixtures.

The other thing I did with the box is a lot more relevant to my current interests. As many children do at that age, I liked to draw. I went through phases of drawing different subjects.…. sometimes houses, sometimes my mother, flowers, and a lot of submarines with little emergency escape subs attached to their bottoms.

Budding artist that I was, I had other plans for that box. I don’t know where I had seen easels, perhaps in elementary school. I got the idea that I wanted my very own easel to make my drawings on. So I took that big washing machine box and folded one of the four sides down against another side to form a triangular prism shape. This sat neatly on the floor and the remaining re-enforcing board attached along the edge formed the tray which held my crayons and pencils.
